FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced that he would keep the state's Severe Cold Weather Protocol in place in anticipation of more cold days ahead in Fairfield County and across Connecticut.

Temperatures will be in the mid-20s on Wednesday, with night-time temperatures across Fairfield County expected to hover at about 5 to 10 degrees, according to the National Weather Service .

On Thursday, temperatures will reach the upper 20s but wind chills will be as low as -1. Night-time temperatures will drop back into the teens.

The state's Severe Cold Weather Protocol directs the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Department of Social Services, the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Housing to coordinate with 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to ensure that the state’s most vulnerable people are protected from the severe cold weather.
