Hundreds Pay Tribute To Westport Marine Roger Muchnick

WESTPORT,  Conn. – More than 1,000 people were estimated to have paid their respects to Lance Cpl. Roger Muchnick, a Westport Marine killed last week in a military training exercise, during a funeral service held Friday morning in Lenox, Mass., the Connecticut Post reported.

Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff attended the service at St. Ann’s Church and members of the Westport Police Department led the funeral procession.

Muchnick, 23, was a 2008 graduate of Staples High School, where he played football and lacrosse. He was one of seven Marines killed on March 18 at Hawthorne Army Depot in Nevada after a mortar round exploded during a training exercise.

After graduating from Staples, Muchnick attended Eastern Connecticut State University for one year. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served tours of duty in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
