Hundreds Of Gallons Of Oil Spill Into Basement Of Wilton Home

WILTON, Conn. — Two residential oil tanks malfunctioned and spilled hundreds of gallons of oil into the basement of a Wilton home last week, according to the Hour.

About 500 gallons spilled into the basement of the Ridgefield Road home, the Hour reported. It was absorbed into the dirt floor and ended up contaminating at least two drinking water wells, according to the Hour.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is working to understand the extent of the spill, and has set up three recovery wells to collect the oil, according to the Hour. Town and DEEP officials have advised residents within a 1,000 foot radius to check their wells for contamination as well, the Hour reported.
