High Winds Turn Off the Lights

High winds are causing power failures across Fairfield county and the state. They're expected to blow until 11 a.m., May 9. Connecticut Light & Power released outage statistics at 8:05 p.m. In Westport and Norwalk, fewer than 1 percent of homes were in the dark. In Weston, by contrast, that number climbed to 9.4 percent. Fairfield showed none. Throughout the state, 11,885 customers have had their lines shut down. The National Weather Service is reporting winds of up to 35 mph, with 50 mph gusts in New York City earlier today. That's making driving difficult, especially when going over bridges and elevated roads. Drivers are advised to avoid parking under trees, in case a limb comes down.
