To borrow, with a great deal of liberties, from Frank Herbert's epic science fictional novel "Dune": the coffee must flow. Assistant Director of Administrative Services at the Westport Library George Wagner assures patrons it will.
"We just had staff call out sick and no one we could call in," said Wagner. The As You Like It Café is staffed and operated by the library directly, though they feature coffee from Doc's Café across town.
Both today and last Monday the coffee grinders ground to a halt and the milk remained unsteamed as there was no one available to staff the café. Wagner was unaware of some sporadic hours last week as well, though the café was spotted closing early on at least one day.
Tomorrow, July 27, he hopes to have the java once again flowing. Staffing depends on availability but it is "certainly not our intention to be closed," said Wagner. Presuming the coffee is back on without a hitch, patrons should probably avoid following in Herbert's protagonist's steps and not exclaim loudly, that the "sleeper has awakened!"
