Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for former Westport resident George R. Slingo Jr., a 1964 graduate of Staples High School who died Jan. 21. He was 65.
Husband of Victoria Wyslick Slingo, he was born Feb. 8, 1945, in Bridgeport and lived in Westport for 63 years before moving to Monroe two years ago.
Until his retirement, Sling was employed by the Town of Westport Highway Department and as a carpenter. He was a member and president of the Greens Farms Volunteer Fire Department Engine Co. No. 5, a member of the Westport Police Athletic League and the Screwballs. He was also an avid model railroad enthusiast.
Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include his son, Butch; his daughter, Jennifer; three sisters, Nancy Pandolfi of Southport, Patricia Palmer of Fairfield and Kathy Polley of Naples, Fla.; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road. Burial was in Assumption Cemetery, 73 Greens Farms Road.
