WESTPORT, Conn. — A funeral with full military honors will be held Friday in Massachusetts for Westport Marine Lance Cpl. Roger Muchnick , one of the seven Marines killed last week during a military training exercise in Nevada.
The funeral will be held at St. Ann’s Church starting at 11 a.m., a church secretary said. Calling hours will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Muchnick, 23, was a 2008 graduate of Staples High School, where he played football and lacrosse . He went on to attend Eastern Connecticut State University, where he continued to play lacrosse.
After completing his freshman year at Eastern, Muchnick enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served tours in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
Muchnick and six other Marines died last Monday at Hawthorne Army Depot in Nevada after a mortar round exploded during a training exercise.
He is survived by his parents, Roger Muchnick Sr. of Ashville, N.C., and Kate Coakley of Jupiter, Fla.; brother Will; sisters Grace and Avery; and grandparents Jerome and Marilyn Muchnick of Philadelphia, and Robert and Mary Ann Coakley of Lenox, Mass., according to his obituary .
St. Ann’s Church is located at 134 Main St., Lenox.
