Westport's main post office at 154 Post Road East is on the market. Cushman Wakefield is the agent for the sale. According to Jim Fagan, Branch Manager for Cushman Wakefield's Connecticut properties, there is no established sale price for the building. Instead, the company will set an early June bid date when potential buyers can make an offer. The post office building is 7800 square feet, 5000 on the first floor and the balance, in the basement. Parking, as Westporters know, is tricky. The building has a very small lot that accomodates only four cars. There is public parking on Bay Street, however. The building has not been assessed yet by the town so taxes are not determined. Cushman Wakefield is also researching the building's history to find out if there are any possible restrictions in place that potential buyers need to know about. Jim Fagan says he believes the post office will relocate within the next 18 months, or sooner, if a sale is made. The postmaster could not be reached for confirmation.
