Heavy rain all day Sunday into early Monday caused both the Saugatuck and Aspetuck rivers to overflow and flood several Westport roadways. Flooding along Canal Street from Kings Highway N. to Main Street prompted firefighters to evacuate residents from that area, police said.
As of 11 a.m., the following streets were closed :
? Ford Road between Sipperleys Road and #78 Clinton Ave.
? Bayberry Lane Extension at #313.
? Lyons Plains Road from Weston Road to Tuck Lane.
? Canal Street from Kings Highway N. to Main Street.
A flood warning remains in effect for Fairfield County until 1:45 p.m., Monday. The forecast for the next few days is sunny and cool, the National Weather Service says. The next chance of rain is Wednesday night.
