GREENWICH, Conn. – FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers have opened in Greenwich and Bridgeport to assist homeowners and businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Friday.
“I am urging any individual or businesses, in the four declared counties, who have suffered losses or damages as a result of Storm Sandy to visit a center and work with the staff there to review what benefits they may be entitled to,” Malloy said. “These centers provide an opportunity to get answers to any questions and help with filling out an application.” The Greenwich Disaster Recovery Center is located at the Western Greenwich Civic Center, Room 203, 449 Pemberwick Road. Its hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
The Bridgeport Disaster Recovery Center is located at Housatonic Community College, 900 Lafayette Blvd. Its hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. The Disaster Recovery Centers will be staffed with state and federal disaster recovery specialists, including representatives from the Small Business Administration, who will provide information and answer questions about disaster assistance programs. The state is working with FEMA to open additional Disaster Recovery Centers in other areas. Residents and businesses in Fairfield County who suffered damage as a result of Hurricane Sandy are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting the recovery center by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or by visiting the disaster assistance website. For those with speech or hearing disabilities, the TTY number is 800-462-7585.
“We want to get residents’ lives back to normal as quickly as possible,” Malloy said. “Registering with FEMA is often the first step in that process.”
