Residents will have a chance to go down on the farm to all 22 farms in town, in fact to explore agriculture, take hay rides and enjoy the music of the Easton Banjo Society.
Citizens for Easton will host its second annual self-guided Easton Farm Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Visitors can meet at the firehouse green at 1 Center Road to sign in and receive a map, courtesy of the Garden Club.
Although all of the farms are open for exploring, 12 farms are signed up to participate and will offer incentives such as free tastes and hay rides. Gilbertie's herb farm, Gray Friesian, J & L Orchids, Lion Hill, Maple Row, Sport Hill, Silverman's Farm and Sherwood Farm are some of those participating.
Skinny Pines, a locally based pizza truck, will offer pizza topped with fresh local ingredients, and the Easton Banjo Society will play on the green.
After the success of last year's tour, co-chairwoman Jean Stetz Puchalski hopes that the word will spread. "This is truly a community event in celebration of Easton farms," she said.
Puchalski said the event helps to make locals more aware of the farms. "In some ways once you are in Fairfield County, things get busy and you don't realize the resources that you have right at your door," she said.
Sport Hill Farm owner Patti Popp said her farm benefited from last year's tour. "If I had that day everyday, I'd be a happy girl. It truly brought people who I think normally might feel uncomfortable about going onto a farm," she said. "People were just excited to see how much agriculture is in Easton. They're just so amazed that for a small hometown like this, there's so much going on."
