WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport residents should expect traffic delays in the Greens Farms area of town Sunday morning due to the Fairfield Half Marathon, Westport police announced.
Marathon runners will enter Westport on Greens Farms Road at the Fairfield town line, the announcement said. They will travel along New Creek Road and then Beachside Avenue, before exiting town into Southport, police said.
As the runners make their way through town, traffic will be stopped or severely limited, police said. Motorists should expect heavy delays due to road closures along the race route.
Race organizers estimate the runners will enter Westport by 9 a.m. and be gone by 10:15 a.m., police said.
The Westport leg of the marathon is approximately 3 miles, police said. Westport emergency personnel will be stationed inside the route area to respond to any emergencies with minimal delays, police said.
Drivers who need to pass through the area are urged to consider alternate routes, police said. Also, residents along the route should expect difficulties getting in or out of their driveways during times of heavy runner presence, police added.
