Westport, Beware Of Black Ice As Temperatures Drop Below Freezing

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Black ice could form late Wednesday on sidewalks, parking lots and roads across Fairfield County as temperatures drop below freezing after hours of pouring rain, the National Weather Service warned.

Temperatures will fall into the 20s in northern Fairfield County and to about 30 along the shoreline, causing water from the rain and snow melt to refreeze.

This can results in hazardous travel and walking conditions across Fairfield County. Residents should exercise caution on untreated surfaces, especially on sidewalks, parking lots and driveways. Puddles of water have formed on top of ice after rain fell most of Wednesday.

Rain and fog will continue Wednesday evening. The dangers of black ice forming will continue after midnight and into Thursday morning.

There is a chance of continued sprinkles on Thursday, with rain likely by evening. The daytime high will be in the mid-40s, causing more melting.

Showers are likely Friday, with fog before 9 a.m. and thunderstorms possible after 9 a.m. The high will be in the upper 40s or low 50s.
