Westport Could Get Rare Peek At Northern Lights Friday

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A solar flare shot in the direction of Earth could provide residents of Fairfield County with a rare look at the Northern Lights on Friday night, according to accuweather.com.

The strong solar flare will provide the light show for much of the northern half of the United States. Fairfield County and the surrounding area are forecast to have a "fair" viewing of the show, accuweather.com said. 

Residents should also take note that flares of this magnitude can also have adverse effects on electronics such as cellphones, GPS devices and satellite reception, accuweather.com reported.
