Ex-Knick To Speak to Weston Fathers

Calling all Weston dads! In celebration of Father's Day, Knicks assistant general manager Allan Houston will host a Fathers Forum on Saturday, June 18, at the Weston High School cafetorium.

"He was a great basketball player on the court. But, to be perfectly honest, he should be recognized for what he has done off the court," said Kristin Ferrara, Weston’s director of youth services.

Houston will speak about fatherhood as a lifetime role, from being the father of young children to being a grandfather, and about how fathers can maintain a presence while balancing life’s stresses. He will also discuss a father’s role in youth sports and in teaching sportsmanship and the value of hard work.

Houston, who lives in Greenwich with his wife and six children, hosts many workshops for fathers. He was this year's commencement speaker at Western Connecticut State University.

Ferrara has been trying to reach Weston’s fathers since she became the town’s social services director three years ago. She expects a big turnout for the event. Prior to working in Weston, Ferrara had a career in media covering the Knicks. "[Houston is] the most normal athlete I've ever encountered. He's a pleasure to work with," she said.

The event begins at 9 a.m. following the Weston Kiwanis meeting. It is free and open to the public.
