Easton Schools Will Start Tuesday, Sept. 6

EASTON, Conn. – Easton, Redding and Region 9 schools will open Tuesday, Sept. 6 — a delayed opening because of impassable roads in both towns. Teachers should report to schools on Friday, Sept. 2, unless otherwise notified.

United Illuminating crews left Easton at 2 p.m. Monday, First Selectman Thomas Herrmann said, but restored no power.

"There's no additional information on when to expect additional assistance from UI," said Herrmann. The tree and restoration crew arrived Tuesday, but there is "no information as to what to expect from them," he said.

The restoration crew will work on fixing power as well as clearing trees. Three crews were in town Tuesday. Herrmann said a priority list was sent to United Illuminating, but there is no guarantee that it will be followed. Route 136, with three blockages, is one of the high priorities, along with other blocked major thoroughfares in Easton.

Herrmann said he couldn’t predict progress because "each project is one-of-a-kind and crews can spend a whole day on one outage." Two United Illuminating trucks were seen pulling out the of Easton Emergency Medical Services parking lot before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Water is available outside the Easton Police Department for residents to fill jugs for drinking and toilet water. The town will not provide curbside pickup for debris.
