With only two stores and a few farms and summer camps in town, it's hard for Easton students to find summer jobs. Many either don't work, work all year long, or keep coming back to the same job each summer after finishing a year at college.
Shannon Dempsey of Easton has been working at the Easton Village Store since September 2010.
"Most of my friends don't work," said Shannon. "If you're looking for a job in Easton, you probably won't be able to get one."
Abby Angelo, a senior at Joel Barlow High School, has been working at Henry Lehr in Westport since August, and Allie Pemberton has been working at Meadow Ridge for almost two years.
Niccole Chisholm, a sophomore, has been trying since last year to find a job. "It's like, 'Oh, you're in high school and there's a person from college with experience that can work instead,'" said Niccole, who has applied to at least 14 companies, mostly in Trumbull and Fairfield.
Zachary Sherman, a senior at Joel Barlow, has been trying to land an internship with a theater company.
"I don't have a lot of work experience, and interns are mostly college kids," he said.
