Getting enough sleep is important, but doing so in a car while at a traffic light is not a good idea, as one Westport resident learned on Sunday.
Around 7:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person slumped over the wheel of a car at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Saugatuck Avenue. They found Matthew Deppe, 28, of 9 Kings Highway N. asleep at the wheel.
When Deppe awoke, officers noticed he was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. He failed field sobriety tests and was charged with operating under the influence and failure to obey a control signal. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 24.
