Driver Hits State Trooper on Merritt in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A driver struck a parked Connecticut state trooper in an accident on the Merritt Parkway Tuesday night. Both the driver and the officer were taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. The driver struck the trooper’s car from behind at a construction site east of Burr Street on the parkway. Fairfield and Westport firefighters needed to use the “jaws of life” to remove the officer from his vehicle, before American Medical Response took them to the hospital for treatment. State Police are still looking into the cause of the collision.
