WESTPORT, Conn. A Bridgeport driver who police said ran a red light in Westport and fled as officers tried to stop him was arrested Wednesday morning by state police on I-95.
Westport Officer Anthony Falbo reported seeing a gray BMW run the red light at Post Road East and Bulkley Avenue around 1:30 a.m.. When Falbo tried to pull the car over, the suspect fled, police said.
Other Westport officers saw the suspect speeding along Post Road East. Both Falbo and another officer pursued the car onto I-95 southbound, but due to the nature of the crime, a supervisor called off the pursuit. A regional broadcast on the BMW was made and state police later stopped the car near Exit 9 in Stamford.
The driver, Marlon Stewart, who turned 37 Wednesday, was charged with a stop light violation, engaging in pursuit, reckless operation and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He was held at Westport Police Department on a $2,500 bond.
