WESTPORT, Conn. The driver of a box truck received minor injuries Friday night after the truck drove off the road on I-95 in Westport into several trees.
The accident took place between exits 18 and 17 southbound near the Hillspoint Road overpass around 11:11 p.m. the driver of the truck, which was carrying food, was able to get himself out and was assessed by Westport firefighters upon their arrival, Assistant Fire Chief William Dingee reported. Westport EMS further evaluated the driver, who refused to be taken to the hospital.
The truck's 50 gallon fuel tank was damaged during the accident, causing a leak. About 25 gallons of fuel was spilled by the time the leak was stopped. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called to the accident for proper removal of the tank and cleanup of the spill.
The accident was cleared around 1:30 a.m.
