Domenica "Mimma" Romeo, a longtime Westport resident and grandmother of 10, died Tuesday at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was 69.
Romeo was born Feb. 12, 1941 in Reggio Calabria, Italy, but has lived in Westport for many years. She worked as a seamstress and homemaker. The wife of Orlando Romeo, her 10 grandchildren knew her as Nonna, which is Italian for grandmother.
In addition to her husband of 47 years and her grandchildren, Romeo is survived by two sons, Carlo Romeo and wife Katie of Fairfield and Andrew Romeo and wife Luisa of Norwalk; two daughters, Maria Palmer and husband Richard of Stamford and Julia Desroches and husband Ron of Hamden; sister Maria 'Tita' Bellantoni and husband John of Cos Cob; brother Ignazio Galimi and wife Pina of Stamford; and two sister-in-laws, Ada Galimi of Italy and Grazia Galimi of Norwalk. She was predeceased by two brothers, Francesco Galimi and Antonio Galimi.
Calling hours are set for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road. Burial will take place in Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main St. Condolences can also be left for the family online .
