WESTPORT, Conn. – If you love taking a stroll on Westport’s Compo Beach with your dog, you’ll be happy to know beginning Oct. 1, dogs will once again be allowed at the beach.

Dogs will be allowed through March 31 of next year, Westport Parks and Recreation Director Stuart McCarthy announced Tuesday. However, dogs are not allowed on the pavilion, the playground or the boardwalk, McCarthy said.

Also, all dogs must be on a leash. Dogs can only roam free in the designated “off-leash” area south of the pavilion, including South Beach. Off-leash regulations are posted at the entrance to the off-leash area, he said.

Most importantly, residents are required to pick up their dog’s waste, McCarthy said. Anyone who violates these regulations is subject to a $77 fine.
