Frank Pecora, 55, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford to 37 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing prescription narcotics, cocaine and steroids, said Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. attorney for Connecticut.

According to court documents, Pecora was arrested April 29, 2015, following a long-term investigation that revealed Steven Santucci, a former Newtown police sergeant, and others were receiving shipments of steroid ingredients from China and were manufacturing and distributing wholesale quantities of steroids.

The investigation also revealed that, in addition to steroids, Pecora and others in the ring were distributing prescription pills and cocaine.

After his arrest, investigators searched Pecora's home and seized numerous prescription pills, steroids, 350 grams of cocaine, two .308-caliber rifles and two 12-gauge shotguns.

In January, Pecora, a convicted felon, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute oxycodone. In pleading guilty, also admitted that he unlawfully possessed firearms.

He has been detained since his arrest.

Santucci pleaded guilty last year to steroid distribution and money laundering offenses. He awaits sentencing.

The investigation was led by the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigations, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
