WESTPORT, Conn. -- The warm temperatures might not make you think about getting your leaves picked-up and to the curb, but warm or not, it's that time of year again.
The Westport Public Works Department program continues through Nov. 30. Leaves in biodegradable paper bags placed curbside during this period will be collected; leaves placed in plastic bags will not be picked up. Residents living on private roads must place their bagged leaves at an intersecting town road. Public works crews will pick up throughout town several times during the collection period.
Residents whose car displays a valid WP sticker may deliver their leaves directly to the yard waste site at 180 Bayberry Lane. If they are transported in plastic bags, the resident must empty the bags prior to disposal. The yard waste site is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays. From Nov. 7 through Dec. 5 only , Saturday hours at the yard waste site will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents whose vans, pick-ups or tag-along trailers display a valid sticker may deliver up to six 30-gallon bags or containers full of leaves without a fee. A van, pick-up or tag-along trailer exceeding the six-bag limit will be charged $30 per load. Any vehicle or trailer larger than a conventional pick-up will be charged $80 per ton. Any vehicles with a 9-foot-body or vehicles changed to significantly enlarge their factory design size will be charged $80 per ton estimated at 2-ton without weigh slip ($160)
Dump tickets to cover the cost of the disposal fee must be purchased at Town Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays or by mail at Department of Public Works, 110 Myrtle Ave., Westport, CT 06880.
