A Westport driver was not harmed late Thursday afternoon after she lost control of her car and struck a utility pole near 241 Compo Road S.
The utility pole was severed at the base and fell across wires, causing a power outage in the area. Westport police closed Compo Road South at Vani Court and Narrow Rocks Road while emergency crews were working.
Firefighters responded to the call at about 5:55 p.m., Assistant Fire Chief Robert Kepchar said in a statement. Upon arrival, firefighters examined the driver's injuries. She was later turned over to Westport EMS for further evaluation but declined transportation to the hospital.
Northeast Utilities removed the pole, and power was restored at about 7:30 p.m. Compo Road South was reopened shortly before 4 a.m.
The driver's airbag deployed, probably helping her to avoid serious injury.
