A female driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries Sunday morning after she crashed her car on the Merritt Parkway to reportedly avoid hitting a coyote.
The accident happened just after 8 a.m. between exits 44 and 42 southbound between Fairfield and Westport. Westport firefighters found a car with front- and rear-end damage on the grass on the right side of the road.
The driver said she swerved to avoid a coyote, causing the car to go off the roadway onto the grass, back across the road into the guardrail and then back off the roadway onto the shoulder, where it came to rest, Assistant Fire Chief William Dingee said.
A flatbed truck removed the car from the scene, and the last Westport fire unit left by 8:31 a.m.
