WESTPORT, Conn. A Trumbull man arrested in Westport on a warrant for failure to appear was slapped with additional charges Saturday after police say he tried to discard heroin in the back of the police cruiser.
Edward Prandi, 25, was arrested on I-95 northbound after a registration check turned up he was wanted on a warrant. Upon arriving at police headquarters, the arresting officer saw Prandi stuffing his bare left foot into his sneaker. As Prandi was getting out of the cruiser, the officer noticed Prandis right foot had a sock, the police report states.
Once Prandi had exited the car, the officer saw a black sock and a white wax paper bag on the floor of the back seat where Prandi was seated, police said. Prandi later told officers that the bag, which he had in his sock, contained heroin, according to the police report. He reportedly admitted trying to dump it in the cruiser.
In addition to failure to appear, Prandi was charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with evidence. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and is due in court April 17.
