WESTPORT, Conn. – The Bridge Street bridge over the Saugatuck River in Westport will be closed parts of this Wednesday and Thursday to allow for ongoing repairs to be made, Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff announced Monday.
The swing bridge, known officially as the William J. Cribari Bridge, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Signs and markings for detour routes will be posted, Joseloff said in a statement. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic over the bridge will not be impeded.
Mechanical and electrical components of the bridge were damaged during Hurricane Sandy. Cianbro Construction Co., the contractor handling the repairs, informed the town that these components—which had been sent out for refurbishment—are being returned and will be reinstalled, Joseloff said.
Additional bridge closures are expected in the coming weeks, Joseloff said, but will be shorter in duration and “less intrusive.” Notice of these closures will be given in advance, he said.
“The town regrets any inconvenience the bridge closure will cause," Joseloff said. "We thank citizens for their patience and cooperation."
The bridge has been under repair since early February .
