WESTON, Conn. Weston Police Chief John Troxell has unexpectedly announced that will be retiring from the police force.
This decision, as difficult as it is for me, was made for personal reasons and only after many discussions with my wife and family," Troxell wrote in an email sent to town officials and members of the Police Commission on Tuesday.
Due to contractual agreements, Troxell is required to give 180 days notice, therefore his official date of retirement will be July 24.
In the meantime, I shall continue to work to the best of my ability in my capacity for the Town and will assist whomever the First Selectman and Police Commission choose as my replacement to ensure a seamless transition, he wrote.
Troxell, who grew up in town, has been with the Weston Police Department for 31 years.
First Selectman Gayle Weinstein said Tuesday that she was very surprised by the announcement, adding, I wish the best for him and his family.
