Car Crashes Into Tree on Merritt in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – The driver of a 2003 Jaguar that crashed into a tree off the Merritt Parkway in Westport Saturday was hospitalized, Assistant Westport Fire Chief William Dingee reported.

The accident happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. near the North Avenue overpass, between exits 42 and 44 northbound. The car struck a tree off to the right of the roadway, Dingee said in a release. The driver was extricated from the car and transported to Bridgeport Hospital by Westport EMS.

Firefighters cleaned up fluids spilled from the crash, and the car was towed away on a flatbed wrecker.

The driver was not identified. The crash is being investigated by state police.
