Westport resident John Mori of 2 Plunkett Place escaped serious injury but was not able to avoid the law after he crashed his car into a utility pole on Long Lots Road at North Avenue on Friday night. When police arrived at the scene, they saw that Mori, 53, was unsteady on his feet. Police could also smell alcohol on his breath, police reports said.
Mori, who refused to take a breath test, failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with operating under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. He is due in court Sept. 20.
