Brrrr! Westport Opens Warming Centers For Cold Snap

Westport will open warming centers this weekend for people who may need help fighting the frigid temperatures this weekend.

WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Center for Senior Activities at 21 Imperial Ave. will remain open until 4:30 p.m. and will be open Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. as a warming center due to frigid temperatures.

The public is also invited to warm up at the Westport Public Library at 20 Jesup Road. Library hours on Friday from 9 to 6 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Call 2-1-1 for local shelter information.

If you are concerned about a resident who may be in need, please contact the Department of Human Services for more information at 203-341-1050

Temperatures dipped into the teens early Friday, and all of Fairfield County is under a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 p.m. Saturday with snow expected to begin falling early Saturday and continuing in the morning until changing to rain by midday Saturday as temperatures warm up.
