BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man will serve more than a year in prison for selling heroin to a Monroe woman who fatally overdosed, according to John H. Durham, U.S. Attorney for Connecticut.

Daquone Johnson, 25, of Bridgeport was sentenced Wednesday to 13 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing heroin in the overdose death of the woman last year. He has also been ordered to perform 25 hours of community service while on supervised release.

On May 9, 2016, police and medical personnel responded to a call for a 30-year-old woman who was found unresponsive at a home in Monroe. First responders administered Narcan to the woman, who did not respond. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

While administering aid to the woman, hospital staff found unopened folds of heroin on her, according to Durham. The Connecticut Office of the Medical Examiner determined that the woman's cause of death was acute heroin and fentanyl toxicity.

An investigation was launched, which included witness interviews and analysis of calls and text messages to and from the woman's phone. It was later determined that the woman had ordered heroin from Johnson on the day of her death, Durham said.

Johnson was arrested on June 13, 2016 after law enforcement conducted a controlled purchase of heroin from him. He pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of heroin on March 30, 2017.

Johnson is released on a $125,000 bond, and was ordered to report to prison on Feb. 8, 2018.
