Only tents and empty tables remained on Jesup Green by the end of the day, Tuesday. According to Mimi Greenlee, the Westport Library Summer Book Sale was a "phenomenal success" that might have netted as much as $100,000.
She didnt have an exact tally on how much was raised, but said she felt pretty comfortable with $100,000 as an estimate. During the first two days, books were sold for prices hovering around $2. Monday all of the prices were halved and Tuesday, the books were free for the taking. All proceeds went to the library.
By the evening, the volunteers were all gone. Only the tent and tables remained as the sun neared setting. Work crews were doing there best to make sure that those too, disappear as quickly as possible.
