Bob LeRose, owner of Bobby Q's on Main Street, and Westport resident Frank Bergonzi, leader of the band, Lost in the Flood, turned over a hefty $2,500 check to the Westport Fire Department last Friday. The money was raised during Bobby Q's sixth annual entertainment event on August 7. Every year, a portion of the event's proceeds are donated to the Westport Firefighter's Benevolent Fund but this year, the funds are going to the Bridgeport Fallen Firefighters fund.

"The money is going to support the families of the two deceased firefighters who passed away this summer," Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Gottfried said, referring to Lt. Steven Velasquez and Michel Baik who died in a July 24 house fire. "Bobby Q's runs this fundraiser every year and this time, we felt it was appropriate to turn the money over to the families."

In addition to the money donated by Bobby Q's, several Westport firefighters who attended the event  raised $800 by passing around "the boot" for donations. With both, a grand total of $3,300 will be added to the Bridgeport Fallen Firefighters fund.
