WESTPORT, Conn. – Word that Westport's Blu Parrot restaurant in Saugatuck had closed after less than seven months in business led the week in news. Here's a look at some of the past week's top stories.
? The Blu Parrot, a restaurant and live entertainment venue at 60 Charles St., permanently closed its doors Wednesda y. The restaurant announced its departure on Facebook, to the surprise of many patrons. The Parrot opened last Oct. 3.
? Staples High School made headlines again this week. The school was recently named one of the nation's most challenging high schools by The Washington Post.
? Theater and television composer Justin Paul, a 2003 Staples High School graduate, was nominated for a Tony Award with his writing partner, Benj Pasek, for Best Original Score (music and/or lyrics) Written for the Theatre for their work on “A Christmas Story, The Musical." The nomination was announced Tuesday.
? Staples High School senior Lauren Weinberger organized and led the third annual "Listen to the Beat" concert , a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. The concert, held Saturday, featured a group of student singers from Westport and Weston.
? Westport's next Assistant Superintendent for Business Elio Longo, current chief operating officer of Norwalk schools, was appointed by the Board of Education on Monday . Longo will begin July 1 and will replace longtime Assistant Superintendent for Business Nancy Harris, who is retiring at the end of June.
