WESTON, Conn. - The Big Bike/Pedi event will close Weston's School Road to vehicular traffic for five hours Sept. 9 so bicyclists, runners and pedestrians can exercise in a traffic free environment.
The free event, which will be from noon to 5 p.m., is sponsored by the Weston Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee, and is the organization's inaugural effort. It attempted to have the event last year, but it was cancelled when Hurricane Irene struck.
People will cycle, walk and run along a 1.6-mile loop with Weston sport leagues attending to provide other activities, including baseball, basketball and soccer.
There will be a 1-mile, self-timed race at the end of the day, giving runners the opportunity to record a mile time.
Community groups will be invited to set up booths and food may be served.
