Barbara L. Duffy, WWII Nurse

Former Westport resident Barbara L. Duffy, who had served as a World War II Army nurse, died Tuesday at North Broward General Hospital in Florida. She was 91 and lived in Westport for 60 years before moving to Davie, Fla., in 2004

Duffy was born March 18, 1919, in Nashua, N.H. She was the wife of the late Cornelius F. Duffy Jr. A graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing in New Hampshire, Duffy worked at Norwalk Hospital as a registered nurse for 32 years until she retired in 1991. She had been a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps and was a life member of Joseph J. Clinton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 399 in Westport.

She is survived by two sons, Richard F. Duffy and Daniel P. Duffy, and two daughters, Patricia F. Duffy and Kathleen E. Duffy, all of Davie, Fla.; and a grandson. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Duffy, and a grandson.

Funeral services will begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport. A Mass will be held at 9 a.m. in St. Luke Church, 49 North Turkey Hill Road, Westport. Burial with military honors will follow in Willowbrook Cemetery.
