WESTON, Conn. The football playoff picture for Joel Barlow and Weston High Schools will be based on the result of their Thanksgiving Day rivalry game with Barlow holding the upper hand.
Barlow comes into the game with a 8-1 record and is ranked fourth in Class M by the CIAC. Weston is 7-2 and ranked 10th.
Barlow qualifies automatically with a win against Weston but a win by the Trojans doesn’t guarantee a tournament berth.
Matt Fischer, director of information services at the CIAC said, “Weston will qualify with a win over Barlow and one of these things happens: Coventry loses to Ellington, Hillhouse loses to Wilbur Cross, St. Joseph loses to Trumbull or New London loses to Norwich Free Academy.”
Meanwhile, Barlow can qualify with a loss to Weston if three of the following things happen: “Hillhouse loses to Wilbur Cross, St. Joseph loses to Trumbull, New London loses to Norwich Free Academy, Montville loses to St. Bernard and Coventry loses to Ellington,” Fischer said.
If this sounds too complicated, enjoy the Thursday game, which will be played at Barlow at 10 a.m. and look for the CIAC announcement of tournament pairings on Friday.
Eight teams from each division qualify and the quarter final games will be played Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the higher ranked team’s field.
