A $3.125 million state grant for funding the Village at Hales Court project was accepted today, April 27, in what might have been the shortest public meeting on record in town. The conference call meeting started four minutes late at 12:04 p.m. It was over by 12:05 p.m.
How do you debate that the Department of Economic and Community Development (DEDC) wants to give you $3.125 million? asked Carol Martin, executive director of the Westport Housing Authority. Martin and fellow Westport Housing Authority board member David Newberg were authorized to carry out the responsibilities of transferring the money from the Department of Economic and Community Development to the housing authoritys accounts.
The funds will cover the cost of construction for the remainder of the project. The early phases were funded by a construction loan used to bridge the gap between the beginning of the project and official receipt of the state funds. This is the last piece of funding required to bring the project to completion. Martin said, Obviously its an important piece of the puzzle for us to get resolved."
