3 Easton Teens Charged in Bigotry-Based Assault

EASTON, Conn. — Three 17-year-olds were arrested and charged with assaulting an Easton resident because of his ethnicity, police said.

Easton police were dispatched to a party on Lobdell Lane at 11:30 p.m. Aug. 10. The 19-year-old victim was assaulted outside that home, police said, and then transported to his home on Rosewood Drive, where the three defendants assaulted him again. The windows of two vehicles in the victim's driveway were also smashed, police said. In an investigation, police determined the victim was assaulted with the specific intent of intimidating or harassing someone because of his or her ethnicity.

The three teens were charged with two counts of second-degree intimidation based on bigotry or bias, third-degree assault and possession of alcohol by minors. Bond was set at $5,000 with a court date of Aug. 19.

Also, 17 minors received infractions for underage drinking after Easton police were dispatched to the party at 17 Lobdell Lane. Byran Pestone, 21, of Fairfield, and James Perkins, 22, of Fairfield, also were charged with allowing minors to illegally possess liquor in a dwelling or private property.

Monroe and Trumbull police assisted at the party. The incident remained under investigation.
