2 Killed, 2 Injured in I-95 Rollover in Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. — (UPDATED) Two people were killed in Westport early Sunday when the car they were riding in rolled down an embankment off I-95 northbound, state police said. Two others, including the driver, were injured.

Terrance Bernard, 46, and Savannah Wakely, 25, both from Rhode Island, were with Bridgeport residents Jamain Allen and Jennifer Shaver.

Allen, the driver, was in the left lane when, for an unknown reason, the car veered across the right lanes, a dispatcher with State Police Troop G said. The car then crashed through a guardrail and rolled down a steep embankment near Maple Avenue between Exits 18 and 19, police said.

The accident happened at about 3:30 a.m. Bernard and Wakely were killed in the crash. Shaver, 27, was taken to St. Vincent Hospital. Allen, 32, was treated and released, police said.

The highway was cleared at 8:40 a.m., according to the Department of Transportation.
