Yankee Doodle Fair Returns to Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Food, carnival rides, games and family fun are on tap this weekend as the Yankee Doodle Fair returns to Westport.

Organized by the Westport Woman’s Club, the event is the town’s oldest and last remaining annual family fair. It serves as the largest fundraiser for the Woman’s Club.

“For 105 years, the Westport Woman’s Club has been raising funds for local needs,” said club President Mary Lee Clayton. “Its proceeds go to support our grants to community organizations, the scholarship program for Staples students and our much-needed Food Closet.”

The fair will feature a variety of rides and games, including traditional favorites like the Ferris wheel, the “Flying Dumbo,” bumper cars and a carousel. There will also be a kids’ zone featuring face painting, sand art and special activities by Melissa & Doug.

Food will also be a prominent feature. There will be a bake sale in the Westport Woman’s Club, and an outdoor food court featuring Joey’s By the Shore, Westport Chinese Take-out and Christie’s Country Market.

The fair opens Thursday at 6 p.m. and continues through Sunday in the Imperial Avenue parking lot and the grounds of the Westport Woman’s Club. Fair hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Families can have unlimited access to rides with a $25 wristband.
