WESTPORT, Conn. Food, carnival rides, games and family fun are on tap this weekend as the Yankee Doodle Fair returns to Westport.
Organized by the Westport Womans Club, the event is the towns oldest and last remaining annual family fair. It serves as the largest fundraiser for the Womans Club.
For 105 years, the Westport Womans Club has been raising funds for local needs, said club President Mary Lee Clayton. Its proceeds go to support our grants to community organizations, the scholarship program for Staples students and our much-needed Food Closet.
The fair will feature a variety of rides and games, including traditional favorites like the Ferris wheel, the Flying Dumbo, bumper cars and a carousel. There will also be a kids zone featuring face painting, sand art and special activities by Melissa & Doug.
Food will also be a prominent feature. There will be a bake sale in the Westport Womans Club, and an outdoor food court featuring Joeys By the Shore, Westport Chinese Take-out and Christies Country Market.
The fair opens Thursday at 6 p.m. and continues through Sunday in the Imperial Avenue parking lot and the grounds of the Westport Womans Club. Fair hours are 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Families can have unlimited access to rides with a $25 wristband.
