Work Begins On New Edition Of Easton Directory

EASTON, Conn. – A new Easton Directory, a local phone book with maps of Easton and Redding, is being produced by the Easton Senior Center, with plans for publication by Labor Day.

The book is distributed free to every Easton household.

The book is a bible for local residents, "who carry it in their cars or keep it next to their phones," said Val Buckley, director of the Senior Center. The new directory will be the 21st edition of the book, which was first published in 1954, with a 2014 date on the cover, she said.

Buckley is raising money to produce the book, largely through advertisers and community sponsors. The current book includes 82 pages of ads from local businesses, which pay $500 for the back or inside cover, $450 for a full page and lower rates for parts of a page. Benefactors, patrons and supporters pay $25 to $500 and are listed near the back of the book.

Buckley said she has raised $8,000 and is seeking $19,000 to produce the book. She raised $31,000 for the current book, with the additional money supporting activities at the Senior Center.

CellMark Graphics from Norwalk prints the directory.

A number of volunteers who help produce the book are also listed. They confirm listings of residents on their streets and assist with fact checking and other editorial matters, Buckley said.
