Members of the Westport Young Woman's League presented a check for $4,500 to Freda Welsh, executive director of the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts, in support of the Levitt's Wednesday Night Children's Series. A longtime supporter of the Levitt, the league sponsored three performances this summer: Bounce Ooo La La and Daniel; Squeaky Clean; and the Magic of Lyn.
The Levitt schedule will extend into September with two benefit performances: the third Annual Stand Up Comedy Night featuring Paula Poundstone to benefit Homes with Hope on Sept. 10 and a special performance by Grammy Award-winning Blues Traveler on Sept. 24 to kickoff the third Blues, Views and BBQ Festival.
If you are interested in joining the league, the group is accepting applications through Sept. 16. For more information or to fill out an application, visit www.wywl.com or contact Kristin LaFleur, vice president of membership, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The league is a nonprofit philanthropic organization of women committed to promoting a sense of community through volunteerism, social activities and fundraising for local charities. Membership is open to women who live in Westport and are ages 21 to 50. Members can participate in fundraising through the league's Minute Man Race or CraftWestport, or they can volunteer by cooking for the Community Kitchen (formerly the Gillespie Center) or performing Kids on the Block puppet shows for local elementary school students.
