Operation Hope was established in 1986 as a result of local residents’ awareness of numerous individuals in the community unable to meet their own basic needs of food and shelter. With a common community goal in mind, food and emergency shelter was provided to people in the area, and Fairfield’s Operation Hope was born.

The organization serves the Southport and Fairfield communities with numerous programs and opportunities including supportive and affordable housing, shelters for men, women and families, a community kitchen and a food pantry.  Operation Hope’s Food Pantry, completely stocked and run by volunteers, provides over 200 families per month with food, totaling distribution to over 123,000 meals per year.

The firm’s Southport brokerage will be accepting the following items: baked beans, red beans, canned tomatoes, cake mixes, Jell-O, pudding, powdered milk, fresh and canned fruit, fruit juices, frozen prepared meats, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, macaroni and cheese, tuna, spaghetti sauce, canned spaghetti, canned meats and stews, peanut butter and jelly, pancake mix and syrup, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and flour, salad dressings, cereals, instant hot cereals, and power drinks.

Accepted toiletries include toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, toilet paper, razors and shaving cream, hand soap, Afro-American hair dressing, feminine products (tampons and sanitary napkins), Depends undergarments for men (size large), and diapers (size 4-5).

All donations should be dropped off at the company’s office, 250 Pequot Ave. in Southport Village. Drop off hours are between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
