“Over the years, the generosity of volunteer donors has made the holidays brighter for hundreds of children, families and seniors in our town,” said Department of Human Services Director Barbara Butler in a press release.

“We hope that Westporters will continue to support their neighbors, as our department continues to see residents coping with foreclosures, layoffs and reduced work hours.”

Human services employees follow the guidelines for eligibility for other charitable programs such as the Westport Warm-Up fund.

The identities of Holiday Giving Program donors and recipients are protected.

People who wish to “shop” for a family’s gift requests can do so at whatever level they feel comfortable.

The human services department especially needs donations of grocery and gas gift cards of any amount. Gift cards for other local stores are also welcomed, along with donations by cash or check.

Checks should be made payable to DHS Family Programs and have the word “holiday” on the memo line. They may be mailed or dropped off to Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave., Room 200, Westport, CT 06880.

For more information about contributing to the Holiday Giving Program, call Patty Haberstroh at 203-341-1069.

People in Westport who feel they may benefit from extra support this holiday season should call the human services department 203-341-1050.

“To all of these individuals and organizations, the department expresses heartfelt appreciation for demonstrating that Westport is indeed a caring and generous community,” Butler said.
