WESTPORT, Conn. Calling all local teen film buffs: The Westport Youth Film Festival is seeking students' films for its June 2 festival, the program announced.
Entries must fall into one of the following categories: comedy, drama, documentary, experimental, music video and animation. All films produced in the state by Connecticut filmmakers also will be entered into a special "Connecticut" category.
The festival is open to local, national and international students. The films' directors must be between 13- and 19-years-old at the completion of filming.
All entries will be screened by the Westport Youth Film Festival Youth Board. Submissions will be judged by industry professionals, and the winners in each category will receive a $250 cash prize. All entries will also be considered for a "Social Action" award, for which the winner receives a $500 cash prize.
"Students who have had their films showcased at (the festival) have gone on to some of the country's most prestigious film schools and have pursued successful careers in the film industry," Evan Neidich, the festival's program director, said in a statement.
Early deadline is Feb. 15, at a fee of $10 per entry; regular deadline is Feb. 28, at a fee of $15; and final deadline is March 10, at a fee of $25 per entry.
