At Person-to-Person, clients struggling to make ends meet are offered financial assistance to help pay gas, oil and electric bills through the Utilities Assistance Program.
"Too often, the money that our clients earn is quickly gone once they have paid for rent," Marina Thomas, director of social services at Person-to-Person, said in a statement. "Then they have to concern themselves with the other necessities of daily living, such as keeping the lights and heat on."
According to Thomas, the Utilities Assistance Program is one of the most important services provided by Person-to-Person. Money from the grant provided by the Westport Woman's League was used to pay utility bills for a number of families, Thomas said, "which is particularly important during the winter months."
The Westport Young Woman's League is a nonprofit organization of women that focuses on promoting a sense of community through volunteerism, social activities and fundraising for local charities. Person-to-Person is one of the many charities the league helps.
"We appreciate their financial assistance," said Thomas. "More important, we know that our clients are very thankful for their assistance."
